Quick Tutorial: Crop Images to 16:9

16:9 (widescreen) aspect ratio is well suited for many image uses, including Image Grids and Image Cards. Below are quick tutorials for cropping images to 16:9.

PC: PHOTOS APP

  1. Open the folder with the image you want to crop.
  2. Right-click the image and select “Edit with Photos.”
  3. From the “Aspect ratio” dropdown on the right side, select “Widescreen - 16:9.”
  4. If your image is portrait orientation, open the “Aspect ratio” dropdown again and select “Make landscape.”
  5. Adjust the position of the image as desired.
  6. Select “Save a copy” in the bottom-right corner, then save the cropped image to your computer.

MAC: PHOTOS APP

  1. Open the folder with the image you want to crop.
  2. Right click, select “Open With,” and choose the Photos app (you may need to select “Other” and open the Photos app from the Finder window).
  3. Double click the image in the library of the Photos app.
  4. Select “Other” in the top-right corner.
  5. Select “Crop” in the top center.
  6. Select “Aspect” in the right sidebar, if that option is not already expanded. Select 16:9.
  7. Toggle between portrait and landscape using the buttons at the bottom of the Aspect menu. Adjust the position of the image as desired.
  8. Select “Done” in the top-right corner.
