TOOLTIP: INFO & NOTES

Tooltips allow you to provide additional information about content, accessible via a click or hover. They are generally used for providing definitions of terms, citations, or parenthetical content.

Ways you can use tooltips in Canvas…

  • Cite any authors that you reference in your text.
  • Provide definitions for common terms you use in your course.
  • Create a course map with Course Learning Objectives (CLOs) and Module Learning Objectives (MLOs), then provide the full objective text when you reference a specific CLO or MLO number.

Notes

  • Mobile - The tooltip works by tapping on mobile.
  • When a user clicks the link or icon for the tooltip, the tooltip will stay visible until they click elsewhere on the page.
  • We do not recommend using tooltips for longer text. In that case, an Accordion is a better option.
