CHECKLIST: INFO & NOTES
This interactive checklist allows students to keep track of the work they have done and still have left to do. There is a lot of magic behind the scenes to make this checklist easy to use, both for instructors and students.
Ways you can use checklists in Canvas…
- Include a checklist in a Module Overview page so students can track their module progress.
- Add to assignments to ensure students take the necessary steps for completing the assignment.
- Build a checklist that mirrors your evaluation rubric so that students can track their work toward the rubric.
Notes
- Mobile - The checklist works by tapping on mobile. It will adjust the left margin slightly for mobile devices.
- The checklist can contain as many items as you would like. You can also indent to create multiple levels in a checklist.
- You can have multiple checklists on the same page. You can have multiple checklists throughout your course.
- You can include links in your list items. When someone clicks/taps on the link, it will not check the item off. This is to allow people to follow links without accidentally checking an item off.
- By default, all items are left unchecked. When a student checks any item, it stores that information in their browser. If they open the Canvas item again in that same browser, the checklist will have that item checked off.
This checklist is completely manual, meaning that nothing will automatically check off any item, and checking off any item does nothing else in Canvas. Use it purely to help students keep track of their own work. Since this feature is likely new to students, we recommend include a brief description of how they can use the checklist.
Whenever possible, do not change your checklists after making them visible to students. Which items are checked for a student is tied to their order in the list. You can add items to the end of an already-in-use checklist without disrupting that, but deleting items or adding items to anywhere other than the end will disrupt which items students have checked.
